Alison Whitfield

Alison is the Founder and the MD of Ethos. In addition to the day-to-day running of the business, Alison gets involved in both sales and PR, and likes to get out on the road every now and again.

Where did you grow up?

On a farm in the Free State (South Africa) and so had to go to boarding school at a young age.

Early holiday memories?

KZN Coast, Kruger and the Eastern Cape. First European trip was when I was about 20, spent two months travelling in Europe and the UK.

What year did you start at ethos?

1994

What do you do for fun?

Gardening, country walks with our dog, tennis, golf (not enough time for it all)

Favourite Holiday?

Always like to try something different. Love travelling in the UK and visiting SA to catch up with the family.

Most memorable holiday memories?

Walking from Cintsa to Hagga Hagga – 6 hour beachwalk with no one else around, the Lake District and Wales with our dogs, hot air ballooning over the Mara, the list is endless.

What job have you done that others may not know about?

Part of the team that did all the planning and organizing of Indaba.

Amanda England

Amanda is the Sales and Marketing Director and Co-owner of Ethos. After dabbling in the rest of the world, Amanda finally found out that Africa is where she really wanted to be, and now heads up our Sales & Marketing team and loves nothing more than a bit of strategising.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Surrey, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Norway

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney's Magic Kingdom, Florida

What year did you start at ethos?

2002

What do you do for fun?

Hang out with family, friends, children and dogs incorporating great food and even better cocktails!

Favourite Holiday?

A week of activity or culture followed by a week on the beach recovering.

Most memorable holiday memories?

Sitting with a glass of wine, listening to Katie Melua watching the sunset over the caldera at Santorini.

What job have you done that others may not know about?

Worked at the Beachy Head Pub in Eastbourne pulling pints.

Sue Rothwell

Sue is our Business Development Manager, which means that she is out on the road most of the time (except when she is in a whiskey bar in Maboneng (pictured)). Sue has proactively built a very successful key account database that covers UK tour operators, travel agents, business travel agents and conference and incentive houses.

Where did you grow up?

On a cattle farm in Kenya

Early holiday memories?

Driving nearly 500 miles to Mombasa to join a Union Castle ship to visit family in Cape Town

What year did you start at ethos?

2003

What do you do for fun?

Play with the grand children of course!

Favourite Holiday?

Not just lying on a beach. It has to be active.

Most memorable holiday memories?

Star gazing in various quarters of the world.

What job have you done that others may not know about?

Claire Roadley

Claire is our PR & Marketing Manager, and also works closely with the Sales team and their Tour Operators building relationships with their in-house PR or outside agencies to ensure some fantastic press coverage for our clients. Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Benoni (famous for Charlize Theron and Princess Charlene of Monaco, as well as the bunny park!).

Early holiday memories?

Most of my childhood memories were caravanning around South Africa. It was a fantastic way to experience the country - with camp sites right on the beach or in the middle of the Kruger Park.

What year did you start at ethos?

2001

What do you do for fun?

I love to socialise - nothing beats a braai with friends and family. With 3 boys life is hectic so in my down time I like to read, play around on social media or dive into a box set on Netflix.

Favourite Holiday?

My "happy place" is on the back of an open safari vehicle anywhere in Africa - but I also love to spend time with my husband and 3 boys on a lovely sandy beach somewhere warm!

Most memorable holiday memories?

Many of my travel memories have come from my 16+ years of working at Ethos - staying in some of the world’s most iconic safari lodges and hotels. I recently spent a few hours in the elephant hide at Mashatu with my Dad which I will never forget!

What job have you done that others may not know about?

Fundraising and copy-writing.

Kevin Keating

Kevin is our Sales Office Manager, and is an integral part of the Ethos sales team and his strong knowledge of the Ethos account base ensures a seamless approach to our relationship management.

Where did you grow up?

Haven't yet! Jokes aside Kevin is the only one in the team who is truly local, having lived in the Horsham district all his life.

Early holiday memories?

I visited Malawi and Zambia with friends and fell in love with Africa.

2007

What do you do for fun?

Watching football on the telly, while sharing a curry with friends.

Safari

Most memorable holiday memories?

Seeing gorillas in Rwanda

What job have you done that others may not know about?

Nik Butler

Nik joined Ethos at the end of 2000 as our IT Consultant. Nik has a passion for ensuring that companies such as Ethos have the ability to operate very sophisticated networked systems similar to a large organisation but within small company budgets! Nik is responsible for ensuring that wherever possible we are at the cutting edge of new technologies in all that we strive to do. He has set up a networked computer system which extends to home office setups reflecting the office environment as well as overseas remote set ups to enable email access.

Our IT environment is predominantly open-source software which ensures minimal down time, minimal viruses and minimal expenditure. This has been a crucial part of ensuring the smooth running of Ethos Marketing.
