INTERESTING FACT

Black on White or White on Black - a question often asked when on safari.

Truth be told, any white colouring in animals is generally due to the lack of pigmentation.  Specifically in zebras, the black is the default pigment produced and the white stripes are a result of deactivated melanocyte cells, the cells whose job it is to produce pigment.
