Neptune have recognized that to ensure that this wonderous setting is preserved then they need to embrace their environmental responsibilities and thus they have put the following in place:
- All the room’s water heating system is solar.
- They are using wooden amenities in rooms such as toothbrushes, and shaving kits made from recycled wood.
- Shampoo, shower gel & conditioners are presented in glass bottles, not plastic.
- All waste water goes to the soak pit not spread to the open area.
- Glass bottles such as wine and liquor non reusable go to government-designated dump sites from there it goes to a non-profit organization to reuse.
- The food waste is processed to compost so that it can be used for their Organic Farm.
- Every year the team at Neptune take several kinds of trees from the environmental department of Tanzania and plant them in the surroundings.
- The team has a monthly environmental cleaning day to clean the surrounding area by picking up plastic etc. together with the villagers nearby.
Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp is located in a privileged part of the Mara. Remote, wild and overlooking the Mara River, with only the sights and sounds of nature breaking the silence. The hippos in the resident hippo pool being the main culprits when it comes to noise! The handling of waste and the reduction of carbon emissions are the primary concerns in ensuring that this delicate eco system is protected for the local wildlife, birdlife, flora and fauna to flourish. Below give an indication as to what the team at Neptune have put in place to combat these concerns:
- Neptune has reduced their generator running hours to 5hours a day by incorporating the use of solar power to light the camp and heat their water. Hence their diesel consumption was reduced by 70%.
- They have introduced the use of glass bottle water rather than plastic bottles thus reducing waste plastic bottles. The glass bottles are reusable. They have reduced plastics by 85%.
- They have enhanced their wastewater management by constructing a treatment and filtration tank/soak pit. They can now get clear odour-less water which can be discharged into the environment without any harm.
