Neptune Ngorongoro takes great pride that all of the meals that they serve their guests have come from either their own gardens and coffee plantation or from local suppliers. Due to the location of Neptune Ngorogoro Luxury Lodge, they are able to regularly visit the community market in Karatu for produce, to interact with the fisherman who are fishing in Lake Manyara and to source their meat from Arusha.
All of the waste food is then used to compost taking the lifecycle full circle.
Guests are encouraged to come and enjoy the expansive gardens and to involve themselves in the farm. This can be carried out in the following ways and at no extra cost to the guests. It is seen as a way to enrich a clients stay and ensure that they leave Neptune having not only had an incredible wildlife experience at the Crater and Lake Manyara but also have a greater understanding of the ethos behind Neptune Ngorongoro and of the lives and livelihoods of the local communities.
Garden Walks
Come and enjoy the peace and tranquility of our organic gardens either guided with a member of the team at Neptune or on your own. The team will be able to take you through the many varieties of fruit, vegetable and herbs that are grown here that give inspiration to the seasonal organic menus that our talented team of chefs will serve guests. The incredible black soil and sweet water of this region ensures that all of the fruit, vegetables and herbs grown are of the highest quality
Vegetable Harvesting and Fruit Picking
If you are lucky enough to be staying during a period of vegetable harvesting or fruit picking then come and join the team. Roll up your sleeves and come and get dirt on your hands!

Egg Collecting
Every day the eggs are collected from the resident chickens. These will be used to make the delicious omelets and eggs benedict for breakfast, and the puddings and cakes for lunch and dinner, to name but a few of the many dishes that the eggs will be used for. Come and collect these eggs with us knowing that when you sit down to breakfast you know exactly where your eggs have come from – down to the exact chicken!
Coffee Experience
Every morning the delicious aroma of freshly ground coffee wafts through the air. Being located in the middle of a coffee plantation known the world over as producing some of the finest coffee is a real privilege. It awakens the senses as not only does the coffee smell delicious but the plantation ensures stunning views across the hills.
Come and join the team as they take you through the process from harvesting, pulping, washing, drying, roasting and grinding until you are finally brewing and then drinking your very own coffee.

Village Walking Tour
The majority of our staff come from the surrounding villages. Our staff take great pride in their heritage and their customs and are always keen to take guests on a village tour. This enables guests to make a closer connection with members of staff at Neptune, leaving having made new friends and a greater understanding of the way of life, so different from their own in many ways and so similar in others.
