The 29th November 2010 saw Amanda England and Alison Whitfield from Ethos Marketing round up a team of brave travellers and head off to Tanzania on the Serena fam trip, hosted in conjunction with Kenya Airways and Precision Air. This is Alison’s report on the trip:
As far as Fam Trips go (and I have done a few) this was one of the best. A great group of people makes all the difference to a trip! The first stop was exotic Zanzibar Serena Inn where we were treated like royalty. In addition to the fantastic accommodation, food and service at the hotel, we also visited a Spice Farm, did a walking tour of Stone Town and enjoyed a seafood barbeque at Serena’s Mangapwani Private Beach.
From Zanzibar we flew to the Selous Game Reserve, where the green shoots of spring are just starting. Our first sighting was 3 lions crossing the road en-route from Stieglers Airstrip. The first night was at Selous Luxury Camp, which is situated on a dry riverbed, no need to go on a drive – the animals come to the camp! The second day was a full day drive, taking in the Hot Springs, Selous’s Grave and plenty of amazing game viewing. We arrived at Mivumo River Lodge in the afternoon, what an incredible setting with all the rooms overlooking the Rufiji River, outdoor showers and plunge pools and very welcoming air-conditioning.
The Rufiji Royal Suite has got to be seen to be appreciated. It is ideal for a group of friends or a family, with three en-suite bedrooms, a lovely pool area and plenty of space to find some peace and quiet. You even get your own chef and guide!
On the last afternoon we spent a few hours cruising up to Stiegler’s Gorge, (some even managed to catch a Tiger fish or two) and then we relaxed on a sand bank and had sundowners – what a grand finale that was!
