Jean Toucher is the Safari Manager at Ghost Mountain Inn in Mkuze, Zululand, who not only skippers the unforgettable boat cruises and tiger fishing trips on nearby Lake Jozini – but also takes guests out on a wide variety of excursions including guided game drives, walking safaris and birding trips in Mkhuze and Hluhluwe. She also leads fascinating and authentic Zulu Cultural Walks as well as scenic hikes up to the top of Tshaneni (Ghost Mountain). Ghost Mountain Inn prides itself on being an oasis for families, and the team go out of their way to make its youngest visitors feel welcome with special kids sheets on the beds, a Kiddies Menu, a playground and games room with snooker and darts for older kids.Children are welcome to join safaris and boat trips and resident guide Jean will arrange Grubby Bug walks for the kids, where they go on an ‘insect safari’. Baby-sitting facilities are available to give parents some down time.

The Pride Of Mkhuze

February 2014

History was made recently when four lions were released into Mkhuze Game Reserve after a long absence of 44 years. These big cats (a male and two females) are the first of a total of eight destined for the Mkhuze section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. They were trans-located from Tembe Elephant Park (www.tembe.co.za)by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority and its conservation partner, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. A fantastic conservation victory on the #ZuluRoute in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa -restoring this beautiful game reserve to "Big 5" status!

Battle And Birding Weekend

January 1970

In commemoration of the Battle of Tshaneni on the slopes of Ghost Mountain in June 1884, the Ghost Mountain Inn has invited renowned guide and historian, Ken Gillings to recount the events around the Zulu Civil War and specifically those relating to the Battle of Tshaneni between the two principal rivals, Prince Dinuzulu, the son of the deposed Zulu King Cetshwayo, and his Usuthu warriors, and Zibhebhu, head of the powerful Mandlakazi section of the Zulu nation.
