TASTY AFRICA … the perfect backdrop for a “foodie” fantasy!

Africa is said to draw you in, assault your senses and make you fall in love with it.

It might be the scenery that completely takes your breath away.
The vibrant mix of rich cultures combined with the warm welcome of the locals.
The mind-blowing Big 5 game sightings on your safari.
The smell of the bush after a thunderstorm.
The sunrises and sunsets that seemingly set the sky alight.
The cacophony of frogs and insects – or maybe a lion’s roar or cackling hyena that break the night’s silence.
The baking sun on your skin on a glorious beach – or the cool breeze on a magnificent mountain.
Sipping incredible wines surrounded by rolling vineyards
Indulging in award-winning cuisine … in some of the most spectacular settings you can imagine.

Whatever it is that touches your soul – once you’ve been bitten by the “Africa bug” it will call you back time and again.  Here are some of our favourite spots for a “Foodie Foray” …

ANT’S NEST - WATERBERG

Dining at Ant’s is always memorable - whether you are chilling around the pool, in the boma under the stars - or out in the bush midway through your horseback safari.  Food is a fusion of scrumptious home cooking and fine dining - carefully prepared by Ant’s chefs, using only the best fresh produce.

GARONGA

The food at Garonga is delicious, beautifully presented, and spans several dining themes – with each meal served in a different breath-taking location - be it the expansive deck, cosy boma or even a picnic lunch or dinner at the incredible sleep-out deck in the bush. Garonga offers a “help yourself” bar and boasts a varied selection of excellent South African wines. Bernie also takes the matter of sundowners very seriously - the snacks are to die for!

GHOST MOUNTAIN INN

Ghost Mountain Inn in the heart of Zululand is surrounded by 5 acres of beautiful indigenous gardens which lead down to the lake.  Romantic dinners and picnics down on the jetty are always a hit with guests and it’s a great spot to enjoy the views over Ghost Mountain and spot the many bird species the area is famous for. Seasonal Menus are served in the Dining Room, outdoors on the terrace or under the warm African sky in their traditional Boma.

KAMBAKU

Dining at Kambaku River Sands and Kambaku Safari Lodge in the Timbavati Game Reserve is all about bush dinners under the stars.  The crackling bonfire and beautiful lanterns give the experience a magical atmosphere whilst the guides share their stories of their many adventures – with the backdrop noises of the bush.  Safari Lodge focuses on tasty family meals whilst River Sands offers more fine dining with specialist wine tastings in its sunken wine cellar.   Kambaku @Sea on the other hand boasts stunning views over the estuary at Sedgefield on the Cape’s famous Garden Route. This boutique hotel has just 5 luxury suites so is perfect for a romantic retreat!

MAKAKATANA

Makakatana is celebrating its 21st birthday in lockdown.  Set on the banks of Lake St Lucia within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site, Leigh-Ann and Hugh Morrison have truly created a gem!  In addition to their daily game drives and boat cruises – one of their most popular activities are their special beach safari dinners.  Where else can you spot a breaching whale, a pod of dolphins, rhino and buffalo - and then dine on a remote beach?

MALAMALA

MalaMala is one of the largest private Big Five game reserves in South Africa and is world-renowned for offering some of the finest and most consistent Big Five game viewing this side of the equator. Their 3 camps all offer different experiences – but the one thing that doesn’t change is certainly the game experience. MalaMala takes great pride in its cuisine – be it on the terrace, in the boma beneath the stars, in the dining room – or your own private suite.  They are also famous for their bush breakfasts!  A delicious hot breakfast cooked for you by your ranger.
