The leopard was spotted on the rocks at Stieglers Gorge, which is named after a European explorer who died in the area. The Selous Game Reserve is named after Sir Frederick Selous. He was a British army officer, explorer, big game hunter and early conservationist who was shot by a German sniper during a battle on the banks of the Rufiji in World War One.
