On arrival in Cape Town we were met by the lovely Melissa and Mohamed from Ilios Travel who welcomed us to the Mother City and took us on a brief orientation tour. The weather was amazing with only a slight cool breeze and clear blue skies –
I have just had the good fortune of a few days touring Cape Town and the Garden Route with a charming and very entertaining journalist from Ireland - Paul Hopkins. Upon leaving Cape Town airport we were whisked off in comfort to Steenberg in Constantia. This is a hotel that I had stayed in previously and had very fond memories of.
OK so you’re staying at Steenberg and you’ve gorged on the delicious offerings at Catharina’s Restaurant and Bistro Sixteen82 but you can’t come all the way to the Cape and not experience some of the other superb eateries in the area.
Despite its gracious five star boutique hotel, two great restaurants, luxury spa and championship golf course Steenberg is first and formost a farm, the oldest in the Constantia Valley, and has been producing wine since 1695.
We’re starting the Tasty Africa Campaign with the first and some say the most important meal of the day…. breakfast. For the ultimate eggs & bacon I’d go to Steenberg’s Bistro Sixteen82 where they serve the most amazing bacon. Here Executive Chef Brad Ball explains just what makes it so special.
