At Garonga, we believe that continuous improvement is key to delivering an exceptional experience for our guests. Each year, during our annual close-down, we focus on maintaining and upgrading our facilities to ensure that we stay at the top of our game. This year was no different. Here’s an inside look at the many upgrades and maintenance initiatives we undertook during this year’s close-down.

Maintenance & Infrastructure Upgrades: A Fresh New Look

When we close our doors to guests for a brief period, it’s not just to rest – it’s an opportunity to refresh and revamp every corner of Garonga. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that everything is running smoothly for another year of unforgettable safari experiences.

  • General Deep Cleaning & Maintenance
    We kicked off with an intense deep cleaning of all rooms and public areas, along with painting and sealing floors to ensure both aesthetics and durability.
  • Drainage & Sewage Overhaul
    A significant upgrade was the complete replacement of the old drainage and sewage system throughout the property, implementing new equipment as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable waste management.
  • New Water Plant
    A new water plant was installed, replacing the outdated system. This is a key part of our water management plan, ensuring that we’re using resources responsibly and efficiently.
  • New Kitchen at Safari Camp
    The main kitchen at Safari Camp received a complete overhaul, with a brand-new kitchen installed to improve efficiency and maintain the highest standards of food preparation.
  • Sleepouts & Tents
    All our sleepouts and tents underwent meticulous checks and cleaning, with external contractors ensuring that everything is in perfect condition for our guests to enjoy.
  • Solar & Gas Inspections
    We also conducted a comprehensive audit of our solar installations and gas systems, ensuring all is working seamlessly for energy efficiency and safety.
  • Fire & Health Safety Audits
    Fire extinguishers were checked, and health and safety audits were conducted across all areas of the camp.
  • Safari Vehicles & Rifles
    All safari vehicles underwent a full check, service, and a fresh coat of paint. We also serviced and checked all rifles to ensure that everything is in perfect working condition.
  • Bush Clearing & Administrative System Updates
    Bush clearing took place across the farm, and administrative systems were updated, including the review and cleanup of forms and records, ensuring everything is up-to-date and efficient.
  • Soft Furnishings Replaced
    As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance guest comfort, worn or torn soft furnishings were replaced with new items, giving the rooms a fresh, inviting feel.

Training & Team Development: Elevating Skills for the Future

At Garonga, we understand that our greatest asset is our team. That’s why, during the close-down, we also focus on training and developing our staff to meet the highest standards of service, safety, and efficiency.

  • Track & Trails Signage Training
    For six days, our safari team participated in training that focused on interpreting tracks and signs, an essential skill for providing guests with the ultimate safari experience.
  • First Aid & Firefighting
    Our team participated in first aid and firefighting courses to ensure that we are prepared for any emergency situation. Safety is our priority, and this training ensures we are ready to act swiftly and effectively.
  • Online Health & Safety Courses
    Managers and staff completed online health and safety courses to stay compliant with legal requirements, keeping the entire camp running safely and smoothly.
  • Waste Management Training
    As part of our sustainability goals, we’ve also invested in waste management training, ensuring that we’re doing our part in minimizing our environmental impact.
