When people think of African travel, destinations like South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania usually come to mind. Namibia and Botswana follow closely behind, while Zimbabwe is making a resurgence. Yet, there’s a lesser-known jewel waiting to be discovered: Zambia. Known for its walking safaris, the magnificent Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River, abundant wildlife, and untamed wilderness, Zambia is also renowned for its warm hospitality and is considered one of the safest countries to visit in Africa.
Explore the Wonders of Kafue National Park
Kafue National Park, the oldest and largest in Zambia, remains one of the most pristine and least explored parks, offering an exclusive safari experience like no other. Pairing Kafue with South Luangwa National Park offers a diverse landscape and rich wildlife encounters, making for a perfect twin-center safari adventure.
Exceptional Wildlife Encounters
Kafue is a haven for big cat enthusiasts, with cheetahs, lions, and leopards frequently spotted across the park. It boasts the largest population of African wild dogs of any national park in Africa, with packs found in almost all habitat types. The park is home to an astounding 158 species of mammals, including large populations of buffalo and elephants, and 20 different species of antelope, such as the red lechwe, puku, oribi, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, roan antelope, and the elusive sitatunga.
For those fascinated by rare and unusual species, Kafue offers sightings of pangolins, bush pigs, aardvarks, honey badgers, wildcats, civets, servals, otters, monitor lizards, and various mongoose species.
Sustainable Tourism and Growing Infrastructure
In recent years, Kafue has seen a surge in well-managed safari camps and lodges, attracting more visitors and investments. This influx has led to improved infrastructure, including well-graded roads and airstrips. As a result, wildlife protection has intensified, with increased support from the Zambian Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) and local operators.
