Have you heard?
Access to Indigo Bay Island Resort and Spa in Mozambique just got easier and cheaper! On 4th September 2009, CFA Air Charters started operating flights from Maputo to Bazaruto Island, where Indigo Bay is located. Flights on their 19-seater twin turbo prop aircraft fly from Maputo to Bazaruto at 10h30 on Mondays & Fridays, returning on Thursdays & Sundays.  Travel time is an hour and a half and a 20kg luggage allowance applies, which is useful for international travellers in particular. Flights cost US$ 475.00 per person return excluding IVA and passenger tax of US$ 10.00 per person. Bottled water and fabulous views are included!
PS: If passing through Maputo, be sure to stay a night at the Grande Dame, the Polana Serena Hotel! This majestic hotel with its long history and desirable location is currently undergoing a US$ 25million refurbishment, due for completion in 2010.
Those saving money on these new flights can now splurge and pamper themselves in their award-winning spa! Indigo Bay’s Sanctuary Spa was honoured in Condé Nast’s Top 10 Hotel Spas of the World in the Africa, Middle East and Indian Ocean category. The Sixth Readers Spa Awards supplement came out in March 2009, where readers nominated their favourite spas in the World in 11 categories. The 1300 m² spa offers five treatment rooms, an ice pool, wet room, hydrotherapy pool, Rasul Chamber, health bar and relaxation areas to pamper even the most jaded city soul.
Indigo Bay was also recognised by Tatler Magazine in their 2009 Top 101 Spas of the World!
PARADISE ISLAND UPDATE
Rani Resorts, Mozambique’s largest tourism investor, will start construction in 2010 on a new property on Paradise Island (Ilha Santa Carolina) in the Bazaruto Archipelago, southern Mozambique, due to open in 2011. The island is a proclaimed marine national park with sensational beaches and magnificent scenery.
Ilha Santa Carolina was a well-known and much-loved exclusive playground for the rich and famous in the 1950’s and 60’s, when Mozambique was still a province of Portugal. Bob Dylan is reputed to have composed his song, ‘Mozambique’ on the piano of the original hotel before the island was abandoned and fell into ruin during the war of independence and the ensuing civil war. The piano bar will be named in his honour.
Paradise Island will consist of 60 beautifully appointed rooms, stylish restaurants and bars, a Clube Naval, kids-club, Sanctuary Spa, shops, a dive and fishing centre, flood-lit tennis courts and an innovative Qolf chipping course – first introduced at Rani Resorts’ Indigo Bay Island Resort and Spa. Lawn tennis and high tea will be offered. It will retain its retro-style architecture and quirkiness.
