BISTRO 1682 AT STEENBERG TO OPEN IN NOVEMBER 2009
Steenberg is set to raise the bar with an innovative new Bistro-style cellar door restaurant and wine tasting concept unlike any other in South Africa’s Constantia Valley.
Named Bistro 1682 after the year in which Steenberg was first established, the interactive wine and food destination will be opening on the estate on Friday the 13th of November 2009. With an informal ambience and offering an interactive dining experience, Bistro1682 will seamlessly complement Steenberg’s popular fine dining restaurant, Catharina’s. With Executive Chef Garth Almazan at the helm of Catharina’s, the restaurant was transformed recently from a once-ordinary space, into a warm and welcoming, gracious work of art.
Set amidst the vineyards at the foothills of the Steenberg Mountain (Stone Mountain), with spectacular views across the vineyards, Constantia Valley, and with False Bay in the distance, Bistro1682 will be a sophisticated, modern daytime restaurant. Here food and wine will be brought together in a feast of the senses, incorporating the Steenberg Winery, Wine Tasting Bar and Tasting Lounge. An interactive modern space, Bistro 1682 will feature earthy natural textures and colours, with a terraced dining area leading to enchanting indigenous gardens. An intricate labyrinth will complete a multi-sensory wine destination experience set to entice visitors to stay, relax and enjoy the wine and cuisine of the Constantia Valley.
Intrepid chef and bistro dining specialist Brad Ball (35), of the River Café and Olympia Café fame, has been appointed to orchestrate the 70-seater Bistro and a unique Raw Bar. With counter seating, the bistro will feature interesting, healthy and delicious raw cuisine that will be freshly prepared on order by designated Chefs.
Gaby Gramm, the General Manager of Steenberg Hotel says there is great excitement regarding the opening of the new bistro and wine tasting facility, which simultaneously, will see the transformation of the current Tasting Room opposite the hotel reception, into a state-of-the-art conference area to seat up to 30 delegates.
