BACKGROUND:
Fordoun Hotel and Spa was built into and around a 1860s settler homestead, farmyard and barns. It opened in March 2005. Fordoun has been the recipient of many awards, most recently in 2009 Fordoun twice won the leading Spa in South Africa. Nominated 2007 by World Travel Awards for both Africa and South Africa in the category ‘Leading Spa Resort’.
ACCOMMODATION:
Hotel is rated 5-star and has 17 Rooms including 7 Deluxe and 10 Luxury rooms.
All rooms have an extra length king size bed and can be converted to twins so the hotel can sleep up to 34 guests.
Each room has an individual theme, en suite bathroom with separate changing area (with hair dryer), under-floor heating and a private verandah.
All rooms are equipped with an electronic safe, telephone, bar fridge and tea/coffee facilities.
Rooms also have a lounge area with a writing desk, 2 armchairs or a couch and coffee table. All have TVs with 10 DSTV (satellite) channels and a CD player. Deluxe rooms also have DVD players.
DINING
Guests can eat at the Skye restaurant, in their rooms or verandahs, in the Spa or may order picnic baskets. The Restaurant seats up to 45 guests and offers A la Carte dining. All vegetables used are organic and all meats are hormone free.
THE SPA:
The Spa is has been beautifully converted from the old dairy. The grain silo now houses a saline floatation pool. At the Professional Beauty Gala Awards 2006, Fordoun was awarded ‘Best South African Destination Spa’. It has 9 Therapists. Advance booking of treatments is essential.
KwaNdlovu (the place of Ndlovu) is the Zulu spiritual area. Here, under the guidance of Traditional Dr. Elliott Ndlovu over 140 varieties of traditional healing plants are grown. Elliot offers consultations for spiritual and medicinal healing using African wisdom and herbal remedies.
ACTIVITIES:
Activities at or near Fordoun include golf, trout fishing, horse riding, walks, birding, hot air ballooning, forest canopy tours and Midlands meandering.
RATES:
Rooms range from R 800 pp to R1,320 pp.
